You can be so ugly, but the eyes always tell a story. March 27, 2012

This is one of the coolest in process tattoos I have seen. It adorns the back of one of my favorite gals. I love and miss her to pieces. Not only for the design but for the reason. I will let you read the description in the canvas’s own words because she is a beautiful writer. (She wrote me a poem for my birthday and I keep it near me to read. She’s a wordsmith.)

“I have always been in love with dragons. Not sure when it started just that it was fueled by everything that I read portraying them as one of the most fearsome and yet noble mythical creatures ever spoken off, they could be drawn so ugly you couldn’t look at them, but their eyes always told a story. Now, I have tattoos placed in certain parts of my body, the placement helps with the meaning. I lost 3 of my grandparents before I turned 20 years old and it was harder than anything I had been through before.  I never got to say goodbye. So when I saw dragons, I associated with grandparents. They care for you and will rip the head off of anybody who tries to harm you. They were and still are my protectors; they always got my back when I got in trouble with my parents, so I kept them fairly busy. This tattoo represents everything my grandparents where to me: the letters in the middle are the initials of them, first row is my mom’s parents- S J C= Silvia Jorge Corsiglia. The second is my dad’s= E H A= Elsie Hector Arrechea. The dragons are guarding them as my grandparents guarded me, the expression of the dragon’s face is one of respect and sorrow and the colors I choose are because my 15th birthday dress was purple, and my grandpa Jorge was already gone by then, and the blue is because I know they are lighting my sky no matter where I am. The horns on the top of the dragons heads are going to be 3 black and one is going to be left uncolored, in honor of my grandma Silvia who is still alive and keeping us all on our toes. The placement on my back, despite the fact that it is the best canvas of my body, is because they always pushed me forward. I miss them terribly, sometimes to the point of tears, but this helps to keep them in my memory always”.

Seriously, is there a better explanation? Thank you so much for sharing Flo. I love you more than tattoos.

The outline session.

Little blurry, but you can sees some great detail.

What a little Beach. March 24, 2012

Last weekend, the last weekend of Spring Break, we went down to Galveston for a trip. My sister was attending a conference down there and asked if Imogen and I wanted to go down there with her, that way we could take the baby too. I thought about it for about a day since I  prior arrangements that weekend and Imogen would have to miss a couple of days of school. I called my Daddy to talk to him about it. As he put it “Why wouldn’t you?” He was right. How often would I get a chance to go to the beach with my sister and the girls? So it was decided. Imogen hasn’t been to the beach since she was a baby, being born in South Carolina, it’s kind of mandatory. She didn’t remember it at all, so of course she was super excited.

Reluctantly gathering shells.

Saturday and Sunday we did basic stuff like walk on the beach looking for shells and went to the pool instead. I know, I know, we were at the beach so why would we go to the pool? I didn’t want to take a four-year old and a seven month old to the beach alone. I knew the baby would cry and Imogen would want to get in the water. So pool was the better option, easier to keep both eyes and hands on them. Plus, the beach is disgusting. At least the ones in the Texas gulf are. SC beaches are nicer, but still, imaging how much waste from sea-life, people, boats, and submarines from all over the world is just too gross. Plus I HATE sand. I’m not a beach person, but for my sister, I’ll do anything.

In the pool Imogen loved swimming. It took her about ten minutes to trust me that her floaties would work. She swam around like a tadpole after she got the hang of it. (More like me letting her go and she had to just do it) Probably the funniest part of the whole trip involves  urine.

Early morning walk.

No, we did not get stung by a jellyfish, although I did step on one. Imogen had to pee. We were far from the hotel and there were no public restrooms, so what do you do? You add to the filthy ocean water. I told her to come with me and she could pee in the ocean. She called me silly and went anyways. She was not to keen on it however. We went in and out of the waves four times before she finally couldn’t hold it anymore. I specifically remember my Daddy doing this with me when we were at the beach once. I was young, had to pee, and my Dad is the Hero. I am Imogen’s heroine. I carried her out there one last time, holding her, jumping the waves. Then:

Imogen: “Mommy! I’m going to pee!”

Me: “Well get on with it then.”

Imogen: “Ok. Ok. Ok. Ok.” (she was whispering this the whole time)

Me: “OH MY GOD! IT’S SO WARM! GOOD LORD!”

Imogen tells me she is done, finally, and I let her know I love her too much. My sister said it’s motherhood. What ever it is, is the deepest love you can have. It would different if I was stung by a jellyfish, I would pee on my own self for that. But this, this is just being an awesome parent. It is her favorite story right now so she feels the needs to tell everyone she talks to. Yay…

(I have showered several times since the incident.)

The benches along the Seawall were painted. This was my favorite I saw. I wonder if they're together.

Framed love. March 24, 2012

I got this frame from my Daddy. I believe it was in the family for a while, and now I have it! It’s a heavy thing, but it’s so beautiful. My Dad sealed it so that the edges would not chip anymore. I love it so much how it is. There used to be a painting in it that got torn up from being outside. I didn’t know what to do with it until I hung it, saw a stack of pictures, and BAM! They’re some of my favorite pictures of my favorite people.

You will notice a lot of Imogen and my friend Rachel. One of those that no matter where we move when we see each other again, no time has passed. My family is up there, all over. Some of lost friends, some of new and a lot of love. It’s my wall of love. It keeps me accountable to talk, think, and remember those that I love and love me in return. When I move again I will change out the pictures to more current ones, but for now, here they will stay.

A little blue goes a long way. March 22, 2012

Spring break was a bit hectic. Mostly keeping the little dinosaur happy, but also keeping Imogen occupied without too much TV. We went to Hobby Lobby for a quick trip, which if you are like me, that is an oxymoron. Imogen wanted to get something to make so I let her pick out something. She started picking out everything of course. We ended up with a little bit of this:

The goods.

1. Crayon buttons

2. Blue felt purse

3. Blue pom poms

4. Blue sparkle pom poms

5. Halloween ribbon

6. Glitter Glue

7.  Drum set stamp

8. “I” initial sticker patch

This month Imogen’s favorite color is blue. She tells me often that her favorite colors “this week” are such and such. The other day she told me on May 20th her favorite color will be orange. Orange because nothing rhymes with it. She picked out everything, especially the Halloween ribbon “cause there is a spider on it”. Everything had to be blue. And the drum set “cause that’s what she wants for her fifth birthday.

We got out the hot glue gun and she instructed me on where to place everything. She put everything else on it herself and….

VOILA

The drumset stamp is on the top and the ribbon is on the back in stripes. The crayons are strategically placed in an “I” and in a row of four because she is four. The orange was extra, but she said “I will put it here because I will be five in May and orange will be my favorite color. Exactly.

Her pose.

I found this on my phone today, I wrote it a while back when I had taken a break from blogging for when I came back. I think it’s pretty funny…I make myself laugh, and that’s what counts.

I would say to all of you lovely people, “Yes it’s been a while. A long time coming this has been. You would look at me and say ‘let’s play catch up’. I would give a look of disgust and tell you forcefully, ‘I hate ketchup’. We would all giggle We would mustard up the time and mayo to sit down, relish in the past month that’s flown by like an under-cooked slab of meat”.

So I’m back.

Repost from July 27, 2011.

Today at work was alright, like most other days. Although Borders is closing, we make it through. There are a few nice and compassionate customers and a lot of ones that don’t take into account the over 10,000 people that are losing their jobs. I don’t want to rant so here’s the lovely tattoo I got to see today.

Shake it like a salt shaker. March 19, 2012

Over the past month or two I have been posting pictures of salt and pepper shakers to my Instagram and to Facebook. People have asked if these are all mine. I wish. My step-mom has a great collection. One that is overgrowing her cabinet for them. I am at fault for that though…I always find her some and have to get them for her. My favorite ones she has are from me…yes I parted with the amazingness.

She has quite the collection. This picture does no do them justice. It took me about 45 minutes to take a picture of the ones that I did. Then I got tired of them, plus dinner was ready.

These are my favorites she has. I gave her the giraffes, yes those are the ones I gave up for love.

Here are some more that I took. Because of my step-mom, I have started to collect my own. I have four sets….Four and growing.

Buttons, buttons and more buttons March 18, 2012

Buttons make me happy.

For occasions like Christmas, Birthday, and just because people love me, I get buttons as gifts. My roommate found this seller on etsy that has fabric covered buttons.

I have not started to make bouquets with these yet, but I will pretty soon. To make my life even better, I have ordered my very own fabric button machine. I’ll be making my own and selling some if people are interested.

Something borrowed, something old, something blue. March 17, 2012

A while back I was given my grandmother’s buttons to use for my Image of Grace-ness. Because I’m a selfish little tramp I kept them for myself. I wanted this to be an heirloom piece, something I can give Imogen and she can give her children etc. I used most of the buttons from my Grandmother’s collection, then stole some antique and vintage ones from my stash. I was so excited to make this one! So excited I made it and took it apart to remake it three times. Yes. Three times.

So purdy.

Taking it all apart after I made the bouquet is not a great idea. These are not something I can just knock out in two hours. Not to mention putting all the stems together make my hands look like they’ve been holding barbed wire.

One of my favorite pictures I own. Of anyone.

My Grandma is a beautiful person. On the inside and out. She is so sweet, hilarious and a great creative inspiration. I have shared some stuff she made before on here, and now I have made something to honor her.

My little dinosaur. March 16, 2012

A tiny update on the basis of my job.

This is what I tend to most of the day. I know, I know, she looks much older than a normal baby, but don’t let the moostache fool you, she’s only six months old. She likes anything shiny or with lights, so I usually keep her away from bug zappers.

Evelynn is in the grabby, talking, screeching, “ba-ba” stage. Today, she stole a spoon from Cracker Barrel. She grabbed it off the table and I did not see it sneak into her car seat. Talk about sticky baby fingers.

Her little duckface. (I’ll tell you a secret, she’s teething). She is so adorable, and seriously hilarious. She does this screech that is insane. She is my little velociraptor.

And her first word with be TARDIS or Doctor.
