A Mommy's Crafty Manifesto Of Lifestyle Art Euphoria

A little blue goes a long way. March 22, 2012

Spring break was a bit hectic. Mostly keeping the little dinosaur happy, but also keeping Imogen occupied without too much TV. We went to Hobby Lobby for a quick trip, which if you are like me, that is an oxymoron. Imogen wanted to get something to make so I let her pick out something. She started picking out everything of course. We ended up with a little bit of this:

The goods.

1. Crayon buttons

2. Blue felt purse

3. Blue pom poms

4. Blue sparkle pom poms

5. Halloween ribbon

6. Glitter Glue

7.  Drum set stamp

8. “I” initial sticker patch

This month Imogen’s favorite color is blue. She tells me often that her favorite colors “this week” are such and such. The other day she told me on May 20th her favorite color will be orange. Orange because nothing rhymes with it. She picked out everything, especially the Halloween ribbon “cause there is a spider on it”. Everything had to be blue. And the drum set “cause that’s what she wants for her fifth birthday.

We got out the hot glue gun and she instructed me on where to place everything. She put everything else on it herself and….

VOILA

The drumset stamp is on the top and the ribbon is on the back in stripes. The crayons are strategically placed in an “I” and in a row of four because she is four. The orange was extra, but she said “I will put it here because I will be five in May and orange will be my favorite color. Exactly.

Her pose.

If I had a time machine… March 12, 2012

If I had a time machine, it would be pointless without The Doctor.

I came to this realization just yesterday. If I had one, what would I do? No that I’ve watched all of Doctor Who, I have no idea, it would be pointless….

Dreaming of The Doctor got me browsing etsy again for Geek swag, here’s what I found. :)

Etched metal portrait of the best Doctor.

I couldn't even speak when I saw this.

I bleed blue.

Don't Blink.

One of my favorite episodes is when The Doctor meets Van Gogh.

I want this for my niece!

This is probably my favorite of the bunch.

A little bit of Peep. March 10, 2012

This past Valentine’s Day I only made a few things. I gave my daughter some new Lalaloopsy Dolls, made my roommate a card and made my sister something extra special. I don’t really like VD. It’s just another day to me, for many reasons, but I wanted my sister to know that she is so special and someone dear to her loves her more than a box of chocolates.

I bought some fabric and lace covered buttons a while back…again…(hence the investment in my own machine).

The base of them is a combo of pink, brown, white and black buttons. The toppers are just loverly and special.

My sister has always been called “Peep”. Mostly by my Daddy. She used to get Peep marshmallows every Easter and VD, even though she does not like them. I found a Peep postcard among my many boxes of them so naturally, Sister got them.

She’s my best and my favorite in the whole wide world and universe.

xoxo

Life Patterns Series

Sewing future threads. Making love in stitches.

Mother of three boys (that alone gives her straight credit for awesomeness) , barista, creator, lovelyness in a cup…she embodies it all.

If there was ever a soul to be made to make, it is this woman. She has been sewing since she was a little girl, her mother made her sew in straight lines over and over until it was perfect. Sometimes I can’t sew a straight line to save my life, but she would save me. One of the things I love about the way Trish Douglas does her clothing is it’s all passionately chosen from every detail. She starts with the inspired fabric and free cuts, using no patterns, and “breathing life into the fabric.” Every garment she creates is different. They are all one of a kind with only one of everything, once it’s done and gone, it’s given a life to a new owner.

Her wonderful pieces of artful smiles are in her ForgetMeNotShop. Although she doesn’t have girls of her own, she is inspired by little girl clothing, dresses, skirts, bows, headpieces, anything. She lives to make people smile, make things that make people smile and make herself smile. Needless to say, some cheeks are going to be sore.

Garden Party Skirt is so cussing adorable!

Life Patterns interviews with me, myself, and I. December 11, 2010

Life patterns interview series

Weaving life to art. Stitching  art to style. Piecing lifestyle art to People.

I grew up creating, anything and everything. My parents were graphic designers in advertising,  so when we weren’t outside tending to our ranch we were drawing, creating and piecing life together. I’m doing this blog now to share ideas, not only mine, but people that I know and strangers that I come across. I want to expose the raw talent that so many people I know have. I always wanted to be able to paint like my sister, draw out of the box like my brother number one and play like brother number two, I settled on creating instead. Creating anything that I saw in my own way. My flaw, however,  is talking myself out of it or not finishing what I started.

These Life Pattern interviews are seeing what makes those that create get a chance to delve into themselves for the reasons they do what they do. This one starting with me. I needed the accountability of my creativity. THIS will be my accountability and my drive to find new ideas to share with you guys! My name is Aubrey and I create. I manipulate the ordinary into something beautiful. I love stars, buttons, beauty, fabric, writing, colors, giving, just to name a few, and most of all Imogen Grace, my three year old monster. She is my inspiration to all things balled up. She is the Image of Grace. Most people that know me don’t really know what I do, here’s your chance to see the awesomeness.
