Here down in Texas, we are in a drought, go figure, like it ever rains down here. There were fires near Austin and all over Texas. I would love it it rain, like really rain. Like the Angels are taking a shower in the purest rain. We could all use it. Well, I was in a sewing mood and wishing for rain, so I made some mucho macho clouds. And what do all clouds need? Mustaches.

Behold:

Rain rain come this way.

One of my favorite things is to get to see other people’s tattoos. I love them, well, most of them. I have seen some really awesome ones, and some that I’m sure a laser could help. There a few in my family that have tattoos, some see it as something that should not be on your body, some love them, like me, and my cousin Stephanie. She got a cover up tattoo that I think is one of the best ones I’ve seen. I’ve seen some messes of cover ups, but her’s is rather pretty.

I love the colors that pop in this. It covers the whole of her lower back. Great job cousin, love you Steph.

Happy Tattoo!!

I got a custom order for a beautiful little girl in Colorado. It was for a lion, the only specification given was one blue eye and one green eye. It was also supposed to represent Sundown United which a friend of mine has started recently. (Check it out, it’s awesome.)

I went looking for a burnt orange kind of felt, but having just moved to Austin, I haven’t found the best fabric store yet. So I found this really pretty Royal Blue. I had some fuzzy yarn from a while back to use for the mane. Oh man, let me tell you , that mane was so troublesome. Not only did it shed all over my room, but I was thrown around the house by my cat, who thought it was a plaything. It’s always fun, but stressful to sew something into a 3-D creäture with no pattern.

I hope little Hailey likes her new friend. I’ll be making some more in a little different way.

I’m excited to make more. Look out!

Twin Dope Tattoo September 20, 2011

My sister is amazing. She can do anything that requires your smarts. She has always been book smart and good at everything. I used to be so jealous of her because she was so good at school, all subjects. She would have the best grades in English, then Math, then Science, then blow everyone away in her artwork. I seriously have never met anyone that could use their left and right brain pretty equally. She got her PhD this year from the University of Texas. My sister can do everything I can’t, and she may possibly be my other half.

A while back I asked her if she would ever want a tattoo. She said maybe a lizard because of her research with them at UT, or something else. But she wasn’t sure. So on her 25th birthday I told her for her present I would buy her a tattoo with me. But it had to be matching, she got to chose what and where it went. She picked this, the chemical structure for Dopamine.

Most people ask what it is when they see it. When we tell them what it is, they look at us like we are speaking another language. I explain it in my own way, I call it laymen’s terms compared to what Lauren says in her science speak. I asked her to tell me why she picked this in her own words:

“To me, dopamine emphasizes the importance of balance to my life. While dopamine evolved to reward us for doing something evolutionarily fit, like falling in love or eating something delicious, the dopamine system can also be hijacked by drugs or gambling to ruin your brain chemical balance to where nothing is rewarding anymore. Balance is key to brain happiness.”

Dopamine, for those that don’t know is the chemical in your brain that is the balance, like she said. It’s what makes drug addicts, addicts. It’s what makes us want to do something over if we enjoyed it. It’s a crazy chemical in our brain that we sometimes don’t give credit for and can easily take advantage of.

This is one of my favorite matching tattoos that I have.

That’s right, we’re dope.

Lauren, I love you more than tattoos. <3

New picks! September 19, 2011

When I have time to actually peruse Etsy, I enjoy it too much. My “favorites” are growing and I love to get inspired by what other people are making. Today I found a lovely artist EllyJ Wilson. Her bio is so stinking cute, the way she talks about herself and her family, and her pets! Oh she is adorable.

Here are my favorites.

Beautiful.

ADORABLE!!

I love the sketchy look to them and the exaggerated legs, snouts and lines. She is truly a talent. Check out her shop for commissions. (She’s in the UK, be advised)

xoxo
